To me, "Trip The Life Fantastic" was a must-buy on "Bandcamp Friday" this time. It's one of the few "Drifting Sun" albums not already found in my collection, and an essential one, because it marks the beginning of the prolific collaboration of composer/keyboardist Pat Sanders and lyricist/singer Peter Falconer, which was, in my opinion, the best creative pairing the band ever had.

The World is Flat ...and other alternative facts

I like "Beyond the Seventh Wave" pretty much - but it's follow-up album "The World is Flat" is even better, in my opinion. There's not a single song I need to skip, the tracks are balanced very well musically, and even the longer tracks are largely free of unnecessary twiddly bits. Basically, the music is typical Dutch symphonic rock à la "Kayak" with a wonderfully melodic e-guitar and lots of vintage keyboard sounds like hammond organ, mellotron, and Yamaha CP-style e-piano, but with some nice extras, brought in by the violin, flute, and french horn used in some of the arrangements. Since the band is not inclined to disclose its more contemporary prog influences, I'll make a guess: "Big Big Train"? Well, sometimes I'm reminded of this first-class band while listening to this album...

Fate Outsmarts Desire

They played a wonderful set at Summer’s End in October 2018 which was based around this album . For me it was one of the sets of the weekend. The record is a wonderful permanent reminder of the show.
