The Sea

from Salt of the Earth by Holy Lamb

/

lyrics

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas; and God saw it was good.
[Genesis 1:9, 10]

When all hope is gone with the winds of timelessness
There’s nothing within, just another empty shell
Washed ashore by the raging sea, emotionless,
The overused mask of sadness and laughter fell

When all faith is gone with the call of senselessness
The dream lingers on in the carcass of reason
Tideswept back into the stormy sea fathomless
To drown the clearest evidence of treason

When all love is gone with the promise of harmlessness
The struggle keeps going between being and living
Devoured by the open jaws of a seamonster merciless
Looking for someone with no means of surviving

An actor for a lifetime, a failure at birth, an easy prey
A saint and a sinner, an earthenware soldier in grey
Your voice resounds orders in my obedient ears
Your eyes in my eyes reflect crystal droplets of tears

But how can you tell sea water from tears?
Is the origin of the ocean the human fear?
Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
[2 Corinthians 4:12, 13]

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
[Matthew 5:13]

And the salt that you eat is what’s left over
Of the faith and the hope we once used to share
